Furniture care

HEAT AND MOISTURE

  • Maintain humidity between 35% – 45%: Keeping humidity within this range helps prevent wood from drying out or absorbing too much moisture, which can cause warping or cracking.

  • Avoid proximity to heat sources: Place furniture away from radiators, fireplaces, or heating vents to prevent excessive drying and potential damage to the wood.

  • Protect from direct sunlight: Direct sunlight can cause fading and drying of wood finishes over time. Position furniture where it is shielded from direct sunlight if possible.

  • Prevent heat damage: Protect the furniture from extreme heat sources such as hot pans or dishes directly on the surface. Use hot pads or trivets to avoid damaging the finish.

Hardwoods expand and contract with humidity so it is important to follow the
instructions for moisture and heat. It keeps the table from cracking and
swelling as wood is porous and it responds to its environment.

CLEANING

  • Daily Cleaning: Use a damp dishcloth with mild soap: For regular cleaning, gently wipe the furniture with a damp cloth using a mild soap solution. This helps remove dust and surface dirt without damaging the finish.
  • Polishing: Use Woodright Furniture polish: For polishing, we recommend using Woodright Furniture polish, following the manufacturer’s instructions. This helps maintain the wood’s natural luster without causing buildup.
  • Avoid Wax-based Polishes: Avoid polishes containing wax or silicone (e.g., Pledge): These can create a buildup on the furniture’s surface, potentially dulling the finish or creating an overly shiny appearance, depending on the product used.

     ADDITIONAL TIPS

      • Keep things such as fingernail polish and remover, perfumes, etc. away from your furniture as this can break down the varnish.
      • If wood and metal fight the metal will win. So as much as possible keep metal objects away to avoid scratches and dents.

With proper care and understanding your solid wood furniture will last for generations to come.
